CORE 52 - Chapter 26: "Our Co-Mission"
In Chapter 26 of CORE 52, titled "Our Co-Mission," Mark Moore explores the Great Commission given by Jesus to His disciples in Matthew 28:18-20. Moore highlights that Jesus’ command to "go and make disciples of all nations" is not just for the original apostles but is a commission given to every believer. This mission, or "co-mission," is a partnership between God and His people, and it requires believers to actively participate in sharing the gospel, making disciples, and baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Moore stresses that the Great Commission is not an optional activity for Christians; it is a central calling that should shape the life of every believer. The chapter explores the three key elements of the Great Commission: going, making disciples, and baptizing. Moore explains that going means being intentional in spreading the gospel wherever we are, making disciples involves helping people grow in their faith and obedience to Jesus, and baptizing signifies the public declaration of one’s faith and the beginning of a new life in Christ.
Moore also reflects on the empowering presence of Jesus, who promises to be with His followers "to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20). This promise gives believers confidence and assurance that they are not alone in the mission, but that Jesus Himself empowers and guides them through the Holy Spirit.
Ultimately, the chapter challenges readers to view the Great Commission as their personal calling, not just a task for church leaders or missionaries, and to actively participate in making disciples in their communities and beyond.
Application:
Reflect on your role in the Great Commission. How can you actively participate in making disciples and spreading the gospel in your everyday life?
Consider how you can partner with Jesus in fulfilling the Great Commission, relying on His presence and power to guide you.
Five Daily Spiritual Challenges:
Day 1: Embrace Your Calling to Make Disciples Spend time today reflecting on the Great Commission. Read Matthew 28:18-20 and consider how you can personally participate in this mission. How does the Great Commission shape your identity as a believer? Ask God to give you a heart for making disciples in your community and beyond.
Day 2: Go and Share the Gospel Jesus calls His followers to go and make disciples. Reflect on how you can be more intentional in sharing the gospel in your daily life. Whether through conversations, actions, or invitations, look for opportunities to share the love and message of Jesus with others today.
Day 3: Teach Others to Obey The Great Commission also involves teaching others to obey everything that Jesus has commanded. Reflect on how you can help others grow in their faith. Consider ways you can disciple others—whether through mentoring, Bible studies, or encouraging conversations.
Day 4: Celebrate the Power of Baptism Baptism is a significant part of the Great Commission, signifying the new life in Christ. Reflect on the significance of baptism in your own life. If you have been baptized, thank God for the new life you have in Christ. If not, consider the importance of baptism as a public declaration of your faith and your commitment to follow Jesus.
Day 5: Rely on Jesus' Presence and Power Jesus promises to be with us always as we fulfill the Great Commission. Reflect on how you can rely on His presence and power as you go about your mission. Ask God for the courage, wisdom, and strength to fulfill your role in making disciples, knowing that Jesus is with you every step of the way.
